introduction

This project aims to enhance STEAM education by integrating core scientific principles with fashion design, creating a transformative learning experience that connects abstract concepts to real-world applications. By contextualizing physics, chemistry, and biology within creative design processes, students engage with STEAM not as isolated theory, but as practical tools for innovation.

Demonstrating scientific phenomena—such as material properties, thermochromic reactions, and biomechanics—shape functional and aesthetic design outcomes to deepen comprehension and retention. Fashion serves as an ideal interdisciplinary medium due to its daily relevance, enabling students to develop critical thinking skills through hands-on experimentation with textiles, sustainable materials, and wearable technologies. This method cultivates an agile mindset adept at leveraging STEAM-based knowledge and creative thinking to drive transdisciplinary innovation.

The project objectives are:

01.

To design and implement a transdisciplinary curriculum grounded in core scientific principles derived from physics, chemistry, and biology for innovative fashion applications, employing a pedagogical framework of microlearning modules coupled with structured hands-on practice sessions to reinforce theoretical knowledge through iterative application.

02.

To develop a modular, adaptable curriculum framework that enables educators to tailor content delivery according to diverse student needs and institutional scheduling requirements.

03.

To enhance STEAM pedagogical competencies among educators and foster student engagement by contextualizing scientific concepts through applied fashion design projects aligned with real-world scenarios.

04.

To advance interdisciplinary learning methodologies and collaborative problem-solving approaches that equip students with future-ready competencies.

INNOVATIONS

The key innovations of the proposed project are:

  • The project innovates by systematically integrating core STEAM principles (physics, chemistry, biology) into fashion design pedagogy. By applying abstract scientific theories into tangible design applications, it bridges the gap between laboratory concepts and creative practice.

  • A key innovation lies in its structured cross-sector partnerships, uniting designers, engineers, and scientists in co-developing curricula and projects. This exposes students to professional workflows early, fostering skills in teamwork and transdisciplinary innovation while mirroring industry practices in emerging tech-fashion fields.

  • The project's three-phase delivery model balances breadth (core scientific principles) with depth (applied prototyping):

       a. Microlearning: Bite-sized theoretical modules

       b. Guided Investigation: Short, instructor-led experiments (e.g., testing thermochromic dyes)

       c. Applied Innovation: Collaborative transformable fashion projects
